Habitat for Humanity Trip - Each year we are given many different opportunities to share in God’s ministry with our hands and hearts. For many of us working with Habitat is one of the highlights of our year. It always feels so good to live our faith, to help someone, to accomplish something lasting and meaningful, and to share in great fellowship, worship, and study with some really terrific people. See the calendar for upcoming dates for teen or adult trips.
Family Promise of Washington County is a non-profit agency that works with churches to provide shelter, food and care for families in need. http://familypromisewc.com. Peace Church regularly hosts families in the program at church. These families enjoyed our hospitality for dinner, evening activities, overnight accommodations and breakfast. Volunteers for future families can help by cooking and serving meals, playing with children and helping them with homework, staying overnight with guest families, just being there for children and their families, showing them compassion and respect, and sharing a sense of community
Thanksgiving Baskets - Peace UCC collects food, money and donations of time from parishoners to prepare Thanksgiving Baskets for distribution through the Kewaskum Community Pantry.
The Peace Church Giving Tree will be located in the Narthex beginning the 1st Sunday in Advent. This is an opportunity for us to share with others all the blessings we have received by purchasing a requested Christmas item or donating cash to assist needy families during the holidays. In the past, members of Peace Church have helped many families with their children’s Christmas wishes. Please look for the
Giving Tree, select a paper ornament describing the item desired. Then, purchase the item, wrap it, affixing the paper ornament on top, and return it to church by the 2nd Sunday in December. It’s as easy as that! Enjoy the overflowing Christmas tree as the gifts are returned and know that you have made a difference in a child’s life!
Hats and Mittens - Peace UCC donates an amazing amount of hats and mittens to a number of local organizations. For example, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Washington County, Friends of Abused Families, Family Promise, Gingerbread House Project, Full Shelf Food Pantry, Kewaskum Community Pantry and the Kewaskum Schools all received donations.
Prayer Shawl Ministry - Peace UCC has approximately 8 women who attend our monthly group, also others who are knitting and crocheting at home. We appreciate each and every helper. We have been able to offer 35 shawls this past year – some of the shawls were given for comfort, some for happy occasions, and some in appreciation. Our thanks to those who have donated financially to pay for the yarn we use. We are very grateful for this help. Our group meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. in the church library. Anyone who knits or crochets is welcome to join us.
